Product Category: Electrical & Lighting → Switches & Sensors

Product Type: Photoelectric / Photocell Light Sensor Switch

Application: Automatic outdoor lighting control

Product Overview

The Photocell Light Switch Sensor automatically controls connected lighting based on the surrounding ambient light level. It switches lights ON when it becomes dark and OFF when daylight returns, eliminating the need for manual daily switching.

This type of photocell is commonly used for streetlights, security lights, compound lighting, garden lights, floodlights, entrance lights and other outdoor lighting applications. Similar 220V photocell switches use a three-wire connection and are commonly rated around 10A.

Key Features

Automatic dusk-to-dawn ON/OFF operation.

Built-in photosensitive light sensor.

Helps reduce unnecessary daytime lighting.

Suitable for automatic outdoor lighting control.

Compact design with mounting base/bracket.

Three-wire connection on common versions.

Suitable for residential, commercial and industrial lighting applications.

Can be used with streetlights, security lights, garden lights and signage lighting.

*The uploaded image does not clearly establish the manufacturer's model number or rating label. Comparable 220V/10A photocell models commonly specify these ratings, so the actual voltage/current rating printed on the supplied unit should be confirmed before publishing it as a guaranteed specification.

Typical Wiring

For a common three-wire 220V photocell:

Live/Line → Sensor input

Neutral → Sensor neutral

Load/output → Light fitting

The exact wire colours and terminal identification must be checked against the markings or wiring diagram supplied with the particular unit. Comparable products use three-wire Line/Neutral/Load arrangements.

Applications

Street lighting

Security lights

Compound lighting

Garden and landscape lighting

Gate and entrance lights

Outdoor floodlights

Parking-area lighting

Commercial buildings

Factory/perimeter lighting

Signboards and advertising lighting

Pathway lighting

Installation Recommendations

Install the sensor where it can receive natural ambient light. Avoid positioning it directly under the light fixture it controls, because the fixture's own light can interfere with the sensor and cause unwanted switching.

Important: Installation involves mains voltage. Isolate the circuit and verify that it is dead before wiring. For installations involving significant lighting loads, confirm the photocell's actual contact rating and use a suitable contactor where required.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does a photocell light switch do?

It automatically switches a connected light ON when ambient light falls and OFF when daylight returns.

2. Does it work automatically?

Yes. Once correctly installed and powered, it operates according to the detected light level.

3. Can it be used for streetlights?

Yes. Photocell switches are commonly used for street, security, garden, pathway and other outdoor lighting.

4. Does it require manual switching every night?

No. Its purpose is to automate the lighting circuit.

5. Can I connect several lights?

Only if their combined electrical load is within the actual rated capacity of the photocell. For larger lighting installations, a contactor is recommended rather than connecting a large load directly to the sensor.

6. Can it be installed outdoors?

Many versions are designed for outdoor use, but the exact IP/weather-resistance rating should be confirmed from the supplied product specification before installation.
