Product Category: Electrical & Lighting → Lighting Controls → Photocell Sensors
Product Type: Automatic Photocell / Photoelectric Light Switch
Application: Automatic outdoor lighting control
The Dusk Till Dawn Automatic Photocell & Light Sensor automatically controls outdoor lighting according to the surrounding ambient light level. It switches connected lights ON when darkness is detected and OFF when daylight returns, providing convenient automatic lighting control.
Photocell switches of this type are commonly used for streetlights, security lights, floodlights, gardens, compounds, parking areas and building exteriors. Comparable 220V models are available with 10A ratings and three-wire connections.

*Specifications such as 220V, 10A and three-wire configuration are common to comparable models but should be confirmed against the exact manufacturer's label/datasheet before treating them as guaranteed specifications. Comparable products also advertise delay functions to reduce unwanted switching caused by temporary changes in light conditions.
Daylight → Light OFF
The photocell detects sufficient ambient light and keeps the connected lighting circuit switched off.
Darkness → Light ON
When ambient light falls below the sensor's operating threshold, the photocell activates the lighting circuit.
Some models incorporate a short time delay to prevent rapid switching caused by brief shadows, vehicle headlights or sudden changes in ambient illumination.
Position the photocell where it can detect natural ambient daylight. Avoid placing it directly where the controlled lamp shines onto the sensor, as this can cause unwanted cycling between ON and OFF.
For high-power lighting installations, check the photocell's actual current rating and consider using a contactor where the lighting load exceeds the sensor's switching capacity.
Electrical safety: Installation involves mains voltage. Installation and wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated before work begins.
1. Does the sensor automatically turn lights on at night?
Yes. It detects reduced ambient light and automatically activates the connected lighting circuit.
2. Will it turn the lights off in the morning?
Yes. When daylight reaches the sensor's operating threshold, it switches the lighting off.
3. Can it be used for streetlights?
Yes. Photocell controllers are widely used for street and outdoor lighting applications.
4. Does it detect movement like a PIR sensor?
No. A photocell detects light intensity, not human movement.
5. Can it control LED floodlights?
Yes, provided the connected lighting load is within the photocell's rated switching capacity.
6. Can it control a large number of lights?
For larger lighting loads, the photocell can be used to control a suitably rated contactor, rather than switching the entire load directly through the photocell.
